Los Angeles SPAR on Covers of the Leading Magazines. Lovely SPAR Eileen Van Dree is the cover girl of the U.S. Coast Guard. Within a few weeks, editors of "Look", "Click", and the "Picture Parade" saw in the Los Angeles girl's beauty just what they wanted for attractive SPAR covers. SPAR Van Dree, who is 23 and formerly from Portland, Ore., now lives in Los Angeles, Calif., where she was employed by a leading commercial photographer before enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard Women's Reserve in September, 1943. After "boot training" at Palm Beach (Fla.) Training Station, she was assigned to duty at the photo lab at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

Cesar Romero Shows Mom His Souvenirs From Saipan. "Mom, This is a Jap Cap." Coast Guardsman Cesar Romero, Boatswain's Mate Second Class, and former movie star, proudly exhibits his battle souvenirs to his mother, Mrs. Maria Romero. The Jap cap and gun came from the Saipan and Tinian invasions in the Marianas. Coast Guardsman Romero served nine months aboard a Coast Guard-manned invasion transport which landed troops and supplies at both Saipan and Tinian. Romero is on leave awaiting a new assignment.

Life Of An Australian Army Nurse - This 28-year-old army nurse Patricia Martin of Port Lincoln, South Australia, has not seen overseas service. But for 18 months in the humid semi tropic Townsville (North Queensland) climate she has worked nine and a half hours a day-sometimes more-six days a week tending sick and wounded Australians from New Guinea. In this time she has had one 24 day break of home leave. She carries the rank of lieutenant, wears pips and the metal "Australia" bade on her shoulders. July 04, 1951.
