At the Rotterdam Dry Dough Society (RDM) on the Heijplaat in Rotterdam, the commissioning takes place of the Poolster (A 835), the new supply vessel for the Royal Netherlands Marine. One of the guests, the State Secretary of Marine, is welcomed on board, while on the right in visual corporal plane-photographer J.S. Van Haarlem is looking for a camera landmark.

New Gunboat For The Voyage Launched At Southampton - "Dragonfly" cheered by workman as she took the water.H.M.S. "Dragonfly", a navy gunboat for the Yangtse River, was launched by Lady Dent at the yards of John I. Thornycroft and Company, Limited, at Woolston, Southampton.A sister ship of the "Dragonfly", the "Grasshopper", is also being built at Thornycraft's.Each ship will have a displacement of 585 tons and embody considerable improvements in armament, protection and living accommodating over earlier types. Photograph of the R.M.S. 'Queen Mary' arriving at Southampton after winning the Blue Riband of the Atlantic on 30th August that year. With an average speed of 30.63 knots for the trip from New York to Bishop Rock, Scilly Isles she beat the previous record, held by the 'Normandie', by 3 hours 31 minutes. The photograph shows the scene at the Southampton quayside, where cheering crowds greeted her return. Date: 1936
