Coast Guard Heroes of Aleutian Rescue. For "outstanding performance of duty" during an Aleutian rescue in which more than 200 lives were saved, four Coast Guardsmen and a lieutenant (junior grade) in the U.S. Naval Reserve were awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal. The men were serving aboard a Coast Guard-manned troop transport which played an important role in the Aleutian offensives. Left to right, they are: Lieut. (jg) G. W.
