Coast Guard Expeditionary Officer Returns From North. Captain Carl C. von Paulsen of Coconut Grove, Florida, a veteran of thirty years' service with the Coast Guard, was in command of a combined Coast Guard-Army expeditionary force which eliminated a German weather and radio base in Greenland. This military operation, carried through under great difficulties encountered in the ice fields, is the second successful attack by Captain von Paulsen against Nazi bases on the Greenland Coast. Secretary of Navy Knox, in commenting on the brilliant handling of this latest von Paulsen campaign said the liquidation of the base "has much to do with the recent successes against the U-Boat in the Atlantic." Captain von Paulsen, with many years' experience in the Bering Sea and on the International Ice Patrol, was also a pioneer Coast Guard aviator during World War One.

The ROKs Have a Fighting Navy -- Typical of the ROK Navy man is Hynn Moo Sup, gunner's mate first class, now on duty at the Chinhae naval reservation training other gunner's mate strikers. The Republic of Korea has a Navy of approximately 50 ships and ten thousand officers and men. Whatever the ROKs lack in numbers they more than make up for in fighting spirit. To the ROKs falls the lion's share of the close inshore patrol and blockade of the long Korean coastline, a job that calls for their shallow draft craft and their aggressive sailors. Commando and behind-the-lines operations are a day in and day out job of the ROK Navy and Marine Corps. June 18, 1951. (Photo by "Official U.S. Navy Photograph").
