The Royal Navy during the Second World War A method of keeping a good sight with a small calibre gun is to utilise model enemy planes as their objective. The officer in charge of the course, Commander Venville, aids in the instruction on board ship using models suspended above the deck of the ship. This is part of a special gunnery course for Merchant Navy officers and men, to teach them how to shoot down enemy aeroplanes.

Stripped to the waist these cadets on the Norwegian training ship "Sorlandet" found their dress suitable for the climate when their vessel came into the Green and Dock to berth in the River Thames.
