The LSV-3 (Logistics Support Vessel) leaves Pier 6 at the Port of Pusan headed for Pyongtaek, Republic of Korea, Oct. 22, 1998. The LSV-3 leaves on its first mission through Korean waters transporting various types of military vehicles. The USS Tripoli (LHA-7), an American-class amphibious assault ship, returns to port at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, California, April 7, 2022. The Tripoli supported the launch of 20 F-35B Lightning II jets from Marine Fighter Attack Squadrons 211 and 225, Marine Aircraft Group 13, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, as well as Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron as part of the U.S. Marine Corps lightning carrier concept demonstration. The lightning carrier concept demonstration shows that Tripoli and other amphibious assault ships are capable of operating as dedicated fixed-wing platforms when needed, capable of bringing fifth generation short takeoff/vertical landing aircraft wherever they are required.

Steaming 250 nautical miles, MV Gary Chouests three-day tow began on Dec. 6 from Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia and ended on Dec. 9 in Philadelphia, Pa., at the Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility (NISMF), where the vessel will be designated as Out of Commission in Reserve (OCIR).A Dead Ship Tow occurs when a motor vessel like Gary Chouest is able to tow a ship like the ex-USS Anzio, when the ship being towed is greater than 100 gross tons and is no longer able to operate under its own command, nor its own propelling machinery.  The Navy Sea Systems Commands (NAVSEA) NISMF office conducted inspections throughout the process to ensure all preparations were in line with guidelines set-up by the Environmental Protection Agency under
