The centre is located in Briançon, Frances highest town, which is part of WHOs Healthy Cities programme. At this altitude the oxygen partial pressure is reduced which has a positive effect on the cardio-vascular system. The concentration of allergens is also reduced. Briançon is one of the top places for high-altitude climate therapy due to its hours of sunlight, almost total lack of fog, its very low hygrometry, its almost total lack of dust mites, the scarcity of damp, its short pollen season and a very low levels of pollution. Romane, 12, suffers from asthma and comes from Lyon. She arrived at the Jeunes Pousses this year. Since she arrived her illness has stabilised. Proton therapy involves irradiating cancer cells by concentrating a proton beam on the heart of the tumour, while preserving the healthy surrounding tissue. The beds are moulded on the patients in order to keep the same position for each session.

Reportage in a laboratory which develops therapeutic vaccinations to treat small-cell lung cancer, using optimised cryptic peptide technology. These vaccinations are intended to treat cancer by stimulating the immune system so it can recognise and attack cancer cells, without harming normal cells. They target over-expressed antigens present in tumourous cells (universal tumour antigens). The lab grows T lymphocytes and dendritic cells. Dendritic cells are filled with optimised cryptic peptides (antigens), then put into contact with T cells so they become responsive to the antigen. The activated T lymphocytes are then able to target the cancer cells.
