Ceiling Ornament, nos. CCCXXII-CCCXXVI ("Designs for Various Ornaments," pl. 50) February 27, 1791 Michelangelo Pergolesi This ceiling design centers on a female figure before rays, with corner rondels showing cupids riding seahorses. With sections numbered CCCXXII to CCCXXVI, the print comes from a group that Pergolesi made and published serially in London between 1777 and 1792. There is no title page, but a prospectus of ca. 1786 described the group as: "A great variety of original designs of vases, figures, medallions, friezes, pilasters, panels and other ornaments, in the Etruscan and grotesque style." The complete set contains 67 plates numbered 1-66 (two are numbered 56), with designs within the plates irregularly numbered 1-435 (in Roman numerals at first, then with Arabic numbers). In 1801, after Pergolesi's death, four additional plates of designs were published by a bookseller Dulouchamp (or Dulonchamp).. Ceiling Ornament, nos. "The Second Knot". Interlaced Roundel with an Amazon Shield in its Center. Artist: Albrecht Dürer (German, Nuremberg 1471-1528 Nuremberg); After Leonardo da Vinci (Italian, Vinci 1452-1519 Amboise) (or workshop). Dimensions: sheet: 10 3/4 x 8 3/8 in. (27.3 x 21.3 cm). Date: 1521 before.Embroidery pattern made up out of so-called knot work. The main pattern has a circular shape and is presented in white on a dark ground. The knotted ropes or straps form two main tiers with different patterns surrounding the central motif which is a blank Amazon shield with curled up edges. On all four corners another, leaf-shaped ornament has been added which sticks out of the circle. The leaves are filled with more knot work in white on the dark ground, and are surrounded by more leaf-shaped forms, combined with swirling straps in black. Post-medieval: Altar, wood (late Baroque), wall painting (15th century), sculpture German-born photographer and scholar Max Hutzel (1911-1988) photographed in Italy from the early 1960s until his death. The result of this project, referred to by Hutzel as Foto Arte Minore, is thorough documentation of art historical development in Italy up to the 18th century, including objects of the Etruscans and the Romans, as well as early Medieval, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. Images are organized by geographic region in Italy, then by province, city, site complex and monument.

Book or album cover 1875 Henry-Auguste Fourdinois French Inspired by sixteenth-century engravings, such as those by Heinrich Aldegrever (1502-1558), the prototype for this Renaissance-style album cover was shown at the 1873 Weltausstellung in Vienna.
