Candlestick with Two Ignudi on Top of a Vase with Lion Heads 1552 Anonymous, Italian, 16th century Design for a candlestick with two ignudi seen from the back, supporting a basin and standing on top of a vase. The vase is decorated is decorated with masks in the shape of lion's heads. The foot of the candlestick has a nautical theme and is decorated with doplhins, masks and harps. From a series of designs for candlesticks in the Antique manner, thought to have been made by an anonymous artist who published his designs through Antonio Salamanca (1552), and later Lafreri (ca. 1573). A second series exists by the renowned engraver Enea Vico, but it is unclear which was the first to be issued. While Bartsch gives the primacy of the designs to Vico, Fuhring has argued for a reverse order based on the relative poor quality of Vico's prints.. Polyptoton de Flore (The Variance of Flowers). A staggering variety of flowers are displayed in six richly ornamented vases. The decorative frames indicate that the prints were meant to be hung on the walls, as paintings. This is also clear from the varying perspective of the pedestals under the vases. Quite exceptionally, these impressions were kept in an album which explains their pristine condition.

Prize cup of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, 1872. 'The prize cups of this club, won in the Channel race from Ryde to Cherbourg and thence to Portland and home to Ryde, are two silver tankards, designed and manufactured by Signor Raphael Monti. The one shown in our Illustration is adorned with sculpture representing the mythological deities of the sea. Neptune and Amphitrite are seated together on the lid. The handle is supported by a young Triton holding a coil of seaweeds. The spout is a sea-shell, held by a pair of Nereids. The figures in relief around the tankard are the sea gods and goddes
