Design for a Gold Earring with Two Buckets and Pulley ca. 1870-1900 Anonymous, French, 19th century Drawing with a design for a gold earring with two water bucket motifs that is part of a collection of 85 drawings with figurative designs for earrings, brooches, pendants and other jewels, possibly real-sized, created with graphite and gouache and heightened with gold inside lithograph frames. These designs are all characteristic of the period between 1870 and 1900, when jewelry design saw a great degree of innovation and creativity in both style and technique. Some of the most important innovations that took place at this time included the setting of diamonds without metal on the back to reinforce the refraction of light on the cut surfaces of the stones, and the use of gold granules and cannetille (scrolls of metal strips) in the creation of fine metal surfaces. Date: 1910.In 1910, the Dutch Reformed Church in Albany commissioned Tiffany Studios to redecorate the sanctuary of their historic house of worship. A contemporary newspaper recounts that Tiffany supplied "chancel furniture...especially designed of Flemish oak to correspond with" the church's seventeenth-century pulpit, sent to the colonies from the Netherlands. The glittering chancel wall was painted in a dark "old-gold" color, following a pattern adapted from a fifteenth-century tapestry. Tiffany Studios also supplied chandeliers, stained-glass windows, and stenciled borders. Kelmscott Chaucer. The factory issue of Geoffrey Chaucer, which appears in the folio format in 1896, is the most famous pressure of the Kelmscott Press and a monument of the new book art movement. This so-called 'Kelmscott Chaucer' is a true-designed book artwork a real community work, where several people worked together in a workshop community. William Morris, who has selected a classic of English literature with the late medieval author Chaucer, created its own font type for the text of this issue, the so-called Chaucer-Type, which is based on the round-gothic fonts of early prints, and also designed the borders and Initials, his student friend Edward Burne-Jones drew the illustrations for the text that were carried out in wood engraving.
