Two hunters surprised by death; Les Chasseurs Surpris Par La Mort. Landscape with two hunters with their booty of shot rabbits standing at a hedge. They are scared of death that crawls like a skeleton over the ground. A hunter loses his rifle and the other points his weapon. A dog stands with the tail between the legs behind this hunter. At the top of a tree is an owl and the gnarled stem shows faces. There is a city in the distance. Above the show is the text Revue Fantaisist.

The Comedy of Death 1854 France. Rodolphe Bresdin was a reclusive, highly individual artist who focused his career as a printmaker and draftsman on intricate compositions of exotic, mysterious, and even macabre subjects. Following the 1848 Revolution, Bresdin left Paris to travel around France on foot, settling in Toulouse from 1853 to 1857.
