The glucose sensor enables Manuella to check blood sugar levels regularly and easily, by scanning with the device. The insulin pump, controlled by another device, gives Manuella insulin throughout the day. Thanks to this device, she can add a bolus of insulin depending on her diet. At high school she has to cope with controlling her blood sugar levels and administering insulin herself. During her sports lesson her pump developed a problem. She goes to the infirmary to set up a new pump. She fills the new pump with insulin.

Neurofeedback is a technique that allows the electrical activity of the brain to be analyzed in real time in an attempt to intuitively improve its functioning. In practice, sensors are applied to the skull and to the ears. The electrical signals are detected using an electroencephalograph which provides the information to a dedicated application. The practitioner is in control of the program while a multimedia activity is delivered to the patient, here in the form of music. During listening, the system informs the brain of the dynamics of the signals it emits, it can then learn to correct them spontaneously thanks to very sophisticated software and can thus succeed in emitting stable and balanced signals.

In this photograph, Sandra Rossi user her NASA-developed prosthesis for the first time. Derived from foam insulation technology used to protect the Space Shuttle External Tank from excessive heat, FAB/CAD, a subsidiary of the Harshberger Prosthetic and Orthotic Center, utilized the technology to replace the heavy, fragile plaster they used to produce master molds for prosthetics. The new material was lighter, cheaper and easier to manufacture than plaster, resulting in lower costs to the customer.
