This workout is in remembrance of Lance Cpl. Jacob A. Hug and Cpl. Sara A. Medina deployed to Kathmandu, Nepal with Joint Task Force 505 shortly after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the country on April 25, 2015. The task force was called upon by the Nepalese Government to provide humanitarian relief shortly after the earthquake. On May 12, another 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the country and JTF 505 continued to provide relief. That afternoon, while providing humanitarian aid, a UH-1Y Huey, with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 469, crashed eight miles north of Charikot, Nepal. Two Nepalese soldiers and six U.S. Marines died in the crash.

Soldiers from the Kenyan Defence Forces, Ugandan Army, and U.S. Army conducted a partnership run in Isiolo, Kenya, Feb. 18 2023, during Justified Accord 2023. Led by the KDF, partners ran over 5 miles stopping intermittently to do push-ups and core exercises. Events like this build partnership and camaraderie between partner forces and further cement the relationships between forces. Justified Accord is U.S. Africa Commands largest exercise in East Africa. CAMP LEMONNIER, Djibouti (Apr. 9, 2022) Service members, base personnel and coalition partners, participate in the fire chief challenge portion of the 2022 Captains Cup. Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti serves as an expeditionary base for U.S. military forces providing support to ships, aircraft and personnel that ensure security throughout Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia. The base enables maritime and combat operations in the Horn of Africa while fostering positive U.S.-Africa relations.

Marine Corps Systems Commands clothing and equipment team recruited Marines from across the National Capital Region to participate in a 30-day limited user evaluation of newly-redesigned physical training uniform prototypes. Like last years prototype, this uniform features anti-microbial, moisture-wicking, fast-drying fabrics and reflective elements. Unlike last years prototype, the current iteration does not use gender-neutral sizing. The current prototype also uses more lightweight fabric and modified design elements. MCSCs clothing and equipment team will collect Marines feedback on the uniforms form, fit and function following the evaluation and make any necessary adjustments to the design.
