Hagerstorm of Tyles, Texas, a U.S. Air Force F-86 Sabrejet pilot of the 18th fighter Bomber wing in Korea, and history's 28th jet ***** destroyed a MIG-15, Saturday, May 16. It was Major Hagerstorm's 13th score against the Russian-built jets, having previously destroyed seven and damaged four. He also shares one destruction with other Sabrejet Pilot. Since the first MIG-15 was shot down in November, 1950, far east air forces aircraft have destroyed 696 of the swept-wing jets, with Sabrejets accounting for 658 of the destructions. He's The Fastest Man On Earth -- Squadron leader Neville Duke grins broadly as he sits in cockpit of his scarlet Hawker Hunter jet fighter after setting a world closed-circuit record of 709.2 miles per hour. Duke, chief test pilot for the Hawker Aircraft Company set the record over a 1,000-kilometer closed circuit at Dunsfold, Surrey, England on Friday. Coast Guard Officer Awarded British Medal for D-Day Rescues. A typical young American who has gone forth to war, Coast Guard Lieut. (jg) George C. Clark, Jr., has been awarded the British Distinguished Service Cross for the heroic rescue of personnel from a burning British ship on D-Day off the Normandy Coast. The citation stated: "There was very grave danger from the mass of burning oil on the water. Lieut. Clark did not hesitate to steer his ship into the flames and was able to make some very courageous rescues." The young officer was commander of an 83-foot Coast Guard Rescue Cutter - one of the fleet which saved more than 1100 Allied soldiers and sailors from the English Channel on D-Day and the critical days following. Lieutenant Clark is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Clark of 9 Hilltop Road, Bronxville, N. Y.
