United States pensioners in line at the Pension Office in the New York Custom-House, 1866. Most are adult men, some are disabled, a few are women, and several wear military forage caps. Union disabled veterans, dead soldiers widows and children, received pensions as early as 1862. The South left such pensions to the individual states, who were constrained by the South's post war economic problems (BSLOC_2019_6_3)

Assassination of Tsar Alexander II (1818 1881), Emperor of Russia, 13 March 1881, in Saint Petersburg. A young member of the Narodnaya Volya ('People's Will') movement, Nikolai Rysakov, threw a bomb, killing one of the Cossacks and seriously wounding the driver. It only damaged the bulletproof carriage. The emperor emerged shaken but unhurt. Rysakov was captured almost immediately. Police Chief Dvorzhitsky heard Rysakov shout out to someone else in the gathering crowd. The guards urged the emperor to leave the area. Then, a second young member of the Narodnaya Volya, Ignacy Hryniewiecki, threw something a bomb at the emperor's feet. Alexander was carried by sleigh to the Winter Palace, where he died.

'The pupils of the Ecole du Nord, desirous of contributing to the defence of Paris, but too young to join the army, lately obtained permission of the Government, and of M. de Flavigny, President of the International Society for the Relief of the Wounded, to march through Paris soliciting gifts for the ambulances. Napoleon enters Berlin, 1806. The Fall of Berlin took place on 27 October 1806 when the Prussian capital of Berlin was captured by French forces in the aftermath of the Battle of Jena-Auerstedt. The French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte entered the city, from which he issued his Berlin Decree implementing his Continental System. Large-scale plundering of Berlin took place.

A huge mob, assembled at the railway station at Mold in Flintshire, Scotland to protest against the imprisonment of miners, employees of the Leeswood Coal Company, who had allegedly assaulted the underground manager. The mob, two thousand strong, pelted the assembled police and soldiers with stones forcing the authorities to fire into the crowd killing five, including two women. Date: 1869
