General Bernard Law Montgomery, 1st Viscount of Alamein (1887-1976).  Montgomery was in command the 3rd division assault on Northern France in 1944. The military manoeuvre began in the early hours of June 6th and included British, Canadian and U.S forces. General Montgomery was famous for his command of the Eighth Army in the North African campaign and his defeat of Erwin Rommel at the Battle of El Alamein. He had previously served in World War One, during which he won the D.S.O.  June 1944

. 16 Battalion (Cardiff City), Welsh Regiment Lt Williams was educated at Llandovery College and St John's College, Oxford where he was awarded First Class Honours Moderations in Mathematics in 1913. On 8 - 9 April 1916, he was commanding a night raid when he was wounded three times and had to be left in a shell hole. A rescue party was sent out 30 minutes late, but no further trace of him was found. For the raid, Lt Williams had disguised his status by removing his identify disc and assuming the uniform of a private soldier. He was aged 21. Lt Williams is commemorated on the Loos Memorial. He is recorded as having gone out with a sergeant to reconnoitre. The sergeant was subsequently found dead but Captain Westcott Brown was not found. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. Prior to 1914 he served with the South African Police and was assisting as Adjutant in the Ulster Volunteer Force upon the outbreak of war. He was killed in action, near Ypres, on 26 May 1915. Albert Maria Forster (July 26, 1902  February 28, 1952) was a Nazi German politician. Under his administration as the Gauleiter of Danzig-West Prussia during the Second World War, the local non-German population suffered ethnic cleansing, mass murder, and forceful Germanisation. Forster was sentenced to death for his crimes after Nazi Germany was defeated.

Harold Chapin (1886-1915), American-born British actor, playwright and soldier.  Widely considered one of the finest potential dramatic talents to be lost in the First World War.  Chapin joined the Royal Army Medical Corps in September 1914 and was killed at the Battle of Loos trying to rescue a wounded comrade when he was wounded himself.       Date: 1915
