In the District of Columbia, the Knights of Columbus, an American men's charitable association made up of Catholics, celebrated the 456th anniversary of the discovery of America by its patron, Christopher Columbus, with ceremonies held in front of the Columbus monument in Union Station Plaza. from Washington. In the photograph, taken on October 12, Columbus Day, the honor guard appears saluting the flag at the beginning of the events. The associates who appear in the background wear crowns that were placed at the foot of the statue of the discoverer. The monument, the work of Lorado Taft, was erected in 1912.
