Reportage at the Neuroimaging research centre in Pitié Salpêtrière hospital in Paris, France. Magnetoencephalography (MEG) platform. Antoine Ducorps, the MEG team's technical director, sets a healthy person up. MEG detects variations in the brain's magnetic field during various types of cerebral activity. It studies normal and abnormal brain function. Recording the magnetic field produced by neuronal currents requires ultra sensitive sensors called SQUIDs (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device). The 306 sensors spread over 102 areas allow both near and far magnetic fields to be measured, and the brain's deep structures to be 'seen'.

Photo essay on the Whole Body Cryotherapy at INSEP (National institute of sport) in France. Whole Body Cryotherapy is the stimulating use of extremely low temperatures below minus 110°C. The therapy stimulates the temperature receptors in the skin to communicate with the brain. The brain then transmits messages throughout the body causing the peripheral blood vessels to constrict. The enhanced blood supply that Whole Body Cryotherapy stimulates increases the oxygen and nutrient supply to areas that need revitalising. Whole Body Cryotherapy causes inhibition of inflammation which results in a reduction of pain and swelling. This reduction in pain and swelling improves joint function which enables therapists to progress treatment quicker and results in an overall sooner return to play. It helps the body recover after intense exercise by flushing out the muscles. Whole Body Cryotherapy can also be used as part of a training programme to enhance sporting performance. It increases muscular

The high-tech art of digital signal processing (DSP) was pioneered at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in the mid-1960s for use in the Apollo Lunar Landing Program. Designed to computer enhance pictures of the Moon, this technology became the basis for the Landsat Earth resources satellites and subsequently has been incorporated into a broad range of Earthbound medical and diagnostic tools. DSP is employed in advanced body imaging techniques including Computer-Aided Tomography, also known as CT and CATScan, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). CT images are collected by irradiating a thin slice of the body with a fan-shaped x-ray beam from a number of directions around the body's perimeter. A tomographic (slice-like) picture is reconstructed from these multiple views by a computer. MRI employs a magnetic field and radio waves, rather than x-rays, to create images. In this photograph, a patient undergoes an open MRI.
