LEWISVILLE, Texas (June 9, 2022) A view of grassland below the Lewisville Lake Dam showing growth three months after a wildfire March 2, 2022. A prescribed fire was initiated at the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area at Lewisville Lake in an effort to create, restore, and revitalize prairies below the Lewisville Dam. This fire was assumed to be controlled prior to 12 p.m., but due to wind and weather condition changes, that fire escaped its intended area. Firefighters from Flower Mound, Frisco and several other surrounding cities responded to mutual aid requests with brush trucks to help contain and extinguish the blaze. Lunga Recreation Facility provides habitats to the many different plants and animals on Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, July 18, 2022. Lunga will be open for camping, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. The recreation facility closed in 2012 due to the discovery of unexploded ordnance. Cleanup efforts are currently being made by Marine Corps Community Services Quantico and Navy Facilities Command Washington to restore Lunga as a safe and fun place for Marines and their families. The new Lunga Recreation Facility is expected to open in the near future.

Rangers at Tygart Lake, in Grafton, West Virginia, built birdhouses for the large amounts of songbirds that call the lake home. The Tygart Lake reservoir is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District to provide flood-risk mitigation and water control services for the Tygart River Valley and the Monongahela and upper Ohio rivers.
