Memorial for Hubert Nicou. A memorial for Hubert Nicou, Father and Pastor in the Frans Roman Catholic Church in Leiden, who died in 1818. On the column, the portrait of Nicou is applied and the base shows a plaque with a seven-line text in Dutch. The monument is flanked by faith with a book on her lap and a writing spring in her hand and through the gravy religion. A putto shows the depicting of a church interior. On the ground are the extinguished and broken torch and an hourglass to death. On the left in the background are two figures between corners shifting, one of which points up to the sunlight. The shared sheaves indicate the last judgment, where God will harvest the seed or word that has fallen in good ground, to the likeness of the sower.

Krishna-Kali 1878-1883 West Bengal, Calcutta In this curious subject Krishna appears in the guise of Kalifour-armed, wearing macabre garlands and with projecting red tonguebeing worshipped by his [secret lover Radha witnessed by other cowherd maidens (gopis) of the Yadavas clan in a forest glade. Krishna’s real identity is nonetheless alluded to by the peacock features he wears in his diadem, not to mention his nonchalant pose. The story tells that Radha’s husband hears of her dalliance with Krishna and rushes to confront her lover, but before he arrives (he is glimpsed entering upper right) Krishna transforms himself into Kali and instructs Radha to behave as if performing a puja (ritual worship). The enraged husband is deceived by this ploy and moved to hear of his wife’s piety in worshipping the family deity.
