On the left the wedding buddy at the Wartburg to which King Andreas, the father of the bride, and the mother of the groom also participated. Elisabeth, accompanied by two servants of Gutha and Isentrudis, promises to her spiritual leader Koenraad van Marburg obedience and chastity. The Condemnation of St Lawrence by the Emperor Valerian , Cappella Niccolina, Palazzi Pontifici, Vatican. Fresco by Fra Angelico (c1400-55) Italian painter. In 1447, or perhaps earlier, Fra Angelico was in Rome, where he painted the private chapel of Pope Nicholas V with scenes from the lives of St Lawrence and St Stephen. The Condemnation of St Lawrence by the Emperor Valerian is the left half the fresco below the lunette on the east wall. The right half depicts the martyrdom of St Lawrence. The two are linked by the cornice which, although it changes in its detailing, is essentially common to both scenes
