Decoration by Jean François Pelloquin (1715 - 1775) Olerys-Laugier Manufactory, manufacturer (French, active 1738 - 1770) 1739-1749 The round charger (large plate) has a slightly raised edge and lobed rim. Decorated in green and orangish yellow on a white ground, the ornamentation features fanciful figures, including animals playing musical instruments, and fantastic birds surrounded by plants and insects. These motifs are arranged in a balanced composition of three tiered registers around a central axis. All these aspects are typical of the distinctive design vocabulary developed at the Olerys-Laugier firm at Mennecy in southeastern France. This charger is an excellent example of the high-quality works produced there, in this case painted by Jean Francois Pelloquin, one of the finest painters at the manufactory.
