Marble grave stele with a family group. Culture: Greek, Attic. Dimensions: H. 67 3/8 in. (171.1 cm). Date: ca. 360 B.C..Because the framing niche that once surrounded this relief is missing, there are no inscriptions that might identify the deceased. Both the seated man and the veiled woman behind him stare straight ahead, as if the young woman who gazes down at them were invisible. Do they mourn their dead daughter Does she mourn her dead father, or is she the sole survivor of the group Despite its ambiguity and solemn sadness, the relief conveys an intense, though restrained, sense of family unity. Carved by a master, this grave stele is one of the most magnificent examples that have survived from the classical period. Museum: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.

Behind him is a youth wearing a cape. He is facing in the opposite direction and bends down to fasten the sandal on his left foot, which he rests on a rock.

A rider is depicted on a trotting horse. Another horseman with a broad-brimmed hat rides a proud, galloping horse. This rider and his horse stand out on account of their harmonious composition. Traces of green colour have been found in the folds of the rider's cape, whereas the corner containing the horse's hind legs was identified among fragments from the storerooms and restored.
