First Postage Stamps of the New Reign -- The New 2½D. Stamp. The portrait of her majesty the Queen is taken from a Photograph by Dorothy wilding and will be used in the designs of all the new postage stamps in the permanent series. The first postage stamps of the new reign will be on sale at all post offices in Britain and at army post offices over-seas on Friday. December 5th 1952. The stamps will be of the 2½ and 1½ denominations. The designer of the 2½ stamp is Mr. M. C. Farrar-Bell and shows the Queen's portrait surrounded by an Ornamer Oval; and Embodies, in a group in the bottom left hand corner, heraldic representations of the rose, Thistle, Daffodil and shamrock. The colour is magenta-red. November 28, 1952.
