The Amstelveenseweg Outside of Amsterdam. An inventory of Rembrandts possessions was drawn up when he declared bankruptcy in 1656. In it was mentioned a large group of landscape drawings ‘naer t leven (from life). And, indeed, on the basis of Rembrandts sketches we can follow the artist on his walks in the countryside around Amsterdam. The short stakes separating the roadway from the footpath on the Amstelveenseweg are clear to see in this fairly late drawing.

Landscape with a Goat. Artist: Titian (Tiziano Vecellio) (Italian, Pieve di Cadore ca. 1485/90-1576 Venice). Dimensions: 3 13/16 x 6in. (9.7 x 15.3cm). Date: 1500-1511.Drawings by Titian are exceedingly rare, and this splendid study is one of the very few sheets that can plausibly be attributed to him. Although it has been trimmed (the fragment at the upper left has been interpreted in various ways but surely represents the lower half of the head of a bearded man), the sketch is a fine example of Titian's powerful and evocative drawing style. The poetic treatment of the landscape reflects the influence of Giorgione; the sheet may therefore date from relatively early in the artist's career, perhaps about 1511.Acquired by the Museum in 1991, the present sketch is a fairly recent discovery and constitutes an important addition to the small corpus of the artist's known drawings.
