Haarlem, Goltzius, Hendrick, The medical profession, The doctor as a person, mo twice three-line, In a house a man sits by the hearth next to his bed, family members caring around him. A doctor sits next to him talking. In the room to the right you can see what has happened to the man since his fall (see the first two prints of the series): his head wound has been treated and he has walked on crutches. In the foreground the doctor again, standing amidst books and medical instruments. Below the image are engraved Latin and Greek texts and (outside the plate edge but on the same sheet) a printed Dutch text, explaining that the doctor is treated as an ordinary person when the sick person is almost cured. This print is part of a series of four prints depicting how the doctor is regarded and valued during his visit to a sick person: upon arrival as a god, after first aid as an angel, upon healing as a human being and when payment has to be made as a devil., print, prints, verso lower left -
