Necklace ca. 3980-3865 B.C. Iran Although they are now strung together, these beads, made of limestone, frit, bitumen, alabaster and carnelian, were not necessarily part of a single necklace in antiquity. They were certainly objects of personal adornment, however, and they were found together in a mans grave at Tepe Hissar, near the modern city of Damghan in northern Iran. Tepe Hissar was primarily an agricultural settlement, though much of the evidence for plant cultivation dates to later periods, with buildings made of mudbrick or simply mud walls. The grave dates to the early 4th millennium B.C., which gives us the date for the beads.. Necklace 324723

Mededeelingen van 's Rijks Herbarium. Leiden, Rijks Universiteit, Rijks Herbarium, 1911-, horsetails, This collection features a series of geological samples, each showcasing distinct textures and formations. The top section includes two larger pieces labeled with numbers, exhibiting intricate patterns that suggest natural layering and erosion. The left piece displays a notable winding line, likely indicating a geological feature such as a fault or fold. Below, the smaller fragments are numbered as well, each presenting unique striations and markings, which may provide insights into the rock's history and composition. Overall, the arrangement highlights the diversity of geological structures and their complex narratives.

S65-18762 (March 1965) --- Effects of the weightless environment on cell division, the basic growth process for living tissue, will be studied during the Gemini-Titan 3 flight scheduled for March 23, 1965. A spiny black sea urchin (upper left) is stimulated by mild electric shock or potassium chloride. As a result it sheds many thousands of eggs. When fertilized, these eggs become actively dividing cells very similar in basic processes to cells of other animals, including humans. These pictures show stages of cell division. At upper right is a single cell; at lower right cell divisions have produced many cells. Cell photos are magnified about 700 times, and all cells shown are too small to be seen by the naked eye. (Photos at upper right and lower left are of sea urchin eggs. Group of cells at lower right are from a sand dollar, which like the sea urchin, is an Echinoderm. Its eggs are virtually identical and are used interchangeably with those of the sea urchin in NASA Ames Center wei

Reportage at the Neuroimaging research centre in Pitié Salpêtrière hospital in Paris, France. Magnetoencephalography (MEG) platform. MEG detects variations in the brain's magnetic field during various types of cerebral activity. It studies normal and abnormal brain function. Recording the magnetic field produced by neuronal currents requires ultra sensitive sensors called SQUIDs (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device). The 306 sensors spread over 102 areas allow both near and far magnetic fields to be measured, and the brain's deep structures to be 'seen'. The tracks show the real-time recording of the MEG's 306 sensors.

These four pictures of Jupiter's Great Red Spot were taken Feb. 2 and 3, 1979, when Voyager 1 was about 31 million kilometers (19.4 million miles) from Jupiter. The pictures were taken one Jupiter rotation apart, and that together they depict four days in the life of the centuries-old Red Spot. The pictures clearly demonstrate changes in circulation around the Red Spot during the 40-hour period. The photos were taken through a blue filter. Jet Propulsion Laboratory manages the Voyager project for NASA's Office of Space Science. (JPL ref. No. P-21148)
