KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - Brewster H. Shaw Jr. (right) accepts congratulations from Al Worden, U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame member and chairman of the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation.  The occasion is the 2006 induction ceremony for the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, held in the Apollo/Saturn V Center. The inductees for 2006 are former NASA astronauts Shaw, Henry "Hank" Hartsfield Jr., and Charles F. Bolden Jr.  Shaw flew on three space shuttle missions including STS-9, STS-61B, STS-28, logging 533 hours in space. The U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame now includes 63 space explorers.

The dinner kicked off the annual Space Congress, held April 28-May 1, 2003, in Cape Canaveral, Fla.  The theme for the event was “Linking the Past to the Future: A Celebration of Space” and commemorated the 40th anniversary of the Kennedy Space Center and the Centennial of Flight.

Three former NASA astronauts were inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame (AHOF) Class of 2022 during a ceremony on June 11, 2022, at NASAs Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida. In the front row, from left are inductees David Leestma, Sandra Magnus, and Chris Ferguson. This years induction brings the total number of AHOF members to 105. Standing behind them are AHOF inductees from previous years. The Class of 2022 were selected by a committee of Hall of Fame astronauts, former NASA officials, flight directors, historians, and journalists. During the ceremony, each of the inductees received an official medal.

Cape Canaveral, Fla. -- New inductee astronaut Karol "Bo" Bobko, addresses the spectators at the 2011 U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame ceremony held at NASA's Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida. Hall of Fame astronauts and visitors gathered to honor 2011 inductees Karol "Bo" Bobko and Susan Helms. During his 19 years in the astronaut program, Bobko flew on three space shuttle missions and logged more than 386 hours in space. He served as pilot during the first voyage of space shuttle Challenger aboard STS-6 in April 1983 and as commander during the maiden flight of space shuttle Atlantis aboard STS-51J in October 1985. Helms, a five-time space shuttle astronaut, has logged 5,064 hours in space. During her stay onboard the International Space Station as a member of the Expedition-2 crew in 2001, Helms performed a world record 8 hour and 56 minute spacewalk. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. --  At the NASA's Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, NASA Administrator Michael Griffin (left) and Indian Space Research Organization Chairman G. Madhavan Nair show their pleasure after signing a framework agreement establishing the terms for future cooperation between the two agencies in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes.  According to the framework agreement, the two agencies will identify areas of mutual interest and seek to develop cooperative programs or projects in Earth and space science, exploration, human space flight and other activities.  In addition to a long history of cooperation in Earth science, NASA and the Indian Space Research Organization also are cooperating on India's first, mission to the moon, Chandrayaan-1, which will be launched later this year. NASA is providing two of the 11 instruments on the spacecraft: the moon mineralogy mapper instrument and the miniature synthetic aperture radar instrument.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Mercury astronaut John Glenn sits in front of the plot board from the Mercury control center on display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida. The astronaut, part of the original class of seven astronauts chosen by NASA, was taking part in a question-and-answer session with the media as part of events celebrating 50 years of Americans in orbit, an era which began with Glenn's Mercury mission MA-6, on Feb. 20, 1962.Glenn's launch aboard an Atlas rocket took with it the hopes of an entire nation and ushered in a new era of space travel that eventually led to Americans walking on the moon by the end of the 1960s. Glenn soon was followed into orbit by Carpenter, Walter Schirra and Gordon Cooper. Their fellow Mercury astronauts Alan Shepard and Virgil "Gus" Grissom flew earlier suborbital flights. Deke Slayton was grounded by a medical condition until the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project in 1975.

The Ingenuity Mars Helicopter team was awarded the 2021 Collier Trophy for the first powered, controlled flight of an aircraft on another planet, thereby opening the skies of Mars and other worlds for future scientific discovery and exploration, the award citation states. This historic trophy - which is on permanent display at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington - is awarded annually by the National Aeronautic Association for the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America, with respect to improving the performance, efficiency, and safety of air or space vehicles, the value of which has been thoroughly demonstrated by actual use during the preceding year.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -  NASA Administrator Charles Bolden (left) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, President Keiji Tachikawa sign an agreement defining the terms of cooperation between the agencies on the Global Precipitation Measurement, or GPM, mission. The ceremony took place July 30 at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Fla. Through the agreement, NASA is responsible for the GPM core observatory spacecraft bus, the GPM Microwave Imager, or GMI, carried by it, and a second GMI to be flown on a partner-provided Low-Inclination Observatory. JAXA will supply the Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar for the core observatory, an H-IIA rocket for the core observatory's launch in July 2013, and data from a conical-scanning microwave imager on the upcoming Global Change Observation Mission satellite.
