New play dedicated to Burma railway men.A former Pow plans to stage a play dedicated to allied troops who worked on the Burma- Siam railway in 1943. He is radio script writer Norman Carter, of South Yarra, Melbourne, who was a war prisoner for three and a half years. His play On with the Motley, is a re- written version of the The Gay Nineties revue which Carter produced for prisoners at Tamakan Prison Camp in Siam. Carter said Yesterday: "In Siam our stage was a mud floor; our costumes were made of hessian."We intend to reproduce this atmosphere as far as we can in forthcoming productions." he said. March 16, 1949.
