Graphite on paper, 3 15/16 x 6 7/8 in. (10 x 17.5 cm). In June 1880, before returning to Newport, Richards made a brief expedition to France. His sketchbook records his impressions while traveling, including this charming study of a picturesque French doorway made, perhaps, at Saint-Cloud, or in Paris. American Art 1880
