The canteen provides hot and cold snacks, light refreshments and cigarettes, and women are allowed to invite their boyfriends in for a meal. A war worker and her guest collect cups of tea and a plate of buns from the counter, whilst other women enjoy a chat or read magazines. The notice to the right of the counter hatch reads: 'Donate proceeds of your admiration to the British Society'.

The Cottages of Freefolk- Life in the Village of Freefolk, Hampshire, England, UK, 1943 The Shadwell family enjoys tea in the kitchen of their home in Freefolk, Hampshire. The sink can be seen under the window behind them, and a large fireplace dominates the right-hand wall. According to the original caption, there is also a 'roomy' larder, and a door from the kitchen gives access to a tiled porch leading to their back yard.
