First Razzia on Jews; Photo and collage book 'The Hidden Camera'. Two photos of the Jews Consideration in Amsterdam: Jews are driven together by the "Ordnungspolizei" from the Jodenbuurt (photo above). On Jonas Daniël Meyerplein, the Jews are forced to kneel on the ground (photo below). The raid took place on February 22, 1941. A second followed on 23 February. 427 Jews were arrested. One survived the war. These raids were the reason for the February strike.

The photograph shows the plane's enormous double six-cylinder engine and structural work. The image was taken by Pvt. Longacre, S.C. and is subject number 13942. Filipino, 98, Gives Happy Hand to Coast Guardsman. Coast Guardsman Carol Smith, gunner's mate, first class, encounters a native Filipino, Paz Peneda, 98 years old, in a village on the island of Leyte in Philippines soon after American forces had driven out the Japs. The aged Filipino couldn't speak a word of English, but his smile spoke plainly of his welcome for the bronzed Coast Guardsmen. They are in front of 'Grandpa' Peneda's home, where he slept through the naval bombardment that preceded invasion.

Coast Guard Combat Photog Covers Luzon Action. Coast Guard Combat Photographer, Rene Prevost, of 564 W. 189th St., New York, N.Y., lies in a Luzon fox hole watching his chance to photograph more action scenes during the initial assault on the main Philippines island. Prevost has been stationed the past 18 months aboard a Coast Guard-manned invasion supply ship. To get his pictures he has hit the beaches from the Marshalls to the Philippines, including New Britain, Emirau, Guam, the Russells, Peleliu and other points along the invasion route. Prior to his assignment in the Pacific Prevost, stationed aboard a Coast Guard Combat Cutter, took the first Coast Guard photos of the invasion of Casablanca in North Africa. His mother, Mrs. George Blanche, lives at 2360 North Runboldt Ave., Milwaukee, Wis.

Coast Guard Writer Wounded on Luzon. Stepping from a Coast Guard-manned landing craft into the shallow surf washing Luzon's beach, Coast Guardsman Jack B. Cole was wounded when a jagged mortar fragment ripped hi right hand. A correspondent and Chief Specialist, Cole was covering the landing and hitting the beach in one of the early assault waves when he was hit. Here, his wound is being dressed by a Coast Guard Pharmacist's Mate in a pen-and-ink sketch by a shipmate, Coast Guard Combat Artist Jack B. Gildersleeve, 28, Specialist Second Class, of Buffalo, N.Y. and formerly of Indianapolis, Ind. and Chicago, Ill. Coast Guardsman Cole's home is at 353 E. 56th Street, in New York City.
