(274.3 x 137.2cm), Silk, China, 19th century, This panel presents the Daoist God of Longevity (Shou) holding a staff accompanied by a spotted deer, the Queen Mother of the West (Xi Wangmu), a goddess, and a young attendant holding a bowl containing peaches. The peach, known in China as the 'fairy fruit,' was always linked to immortality. According to legend, the peach tree that grew in the gardens of Xi Wangmu was said to blossom once in 3,000 years and to yield the fruit of eternal life, which took another 3,000 years to ripen. The peach was therefore a chief ingredient in the elixir of the Daoists.

Balinese dance is a very ancient dance tradition that is a part of the religious and artistic expression among the Balinese people, native to Bali island, Indonesia. Balinese dance is dynamic, angular and intensely expressive. The Balinese dancers express the story of dance-drama through the whole bodily gestures; fingers, hands and body gestures to head and eyes movements. There is a great richness of dance forms and styles in Bali; and particularly notable are those ritualistic dance dramas which involve Rangda, the witch, and the great beast Barong. Laozi (Lao Tzu, c. 6th century BCE) was a mystic philosopher of ancient China. His association with the Daodejing (Tao Te Ching) has led him to be traditionally considered the founder of Taoism (also spelled 'Daoism'). He is also revered as a deity in most religious forms of the Taoist religion, which often refers to Laozi as Taishang Laojun, or 'One of the Three Pure Ones'. Isurumuniya Vihara is a rock temple built during the reign of King Devanampiya Tissa (r. 307 - 267 BC). Anuradhapura is one of Sri Lanka's ancient capitals and famous for its well-preserved ruins. From the 4th century BC until the beginning of the 11th century AD it was the capital. During this period it remained one of the most stable and durable centers of political power and urban life in South Asia. The ancient city, considered sacred to the Buddhist world, is today surrounded by monasteries covering an area of over sixteen square miles (40 km).
