Boat docks lead to the reservoir at Lunga Recreation Facility on Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, July 18, 2022. The reservoir supplies backup drinking water to the base and northern Stafford County. Due to the nature of the reservoir, certain boats and swimming will be prohibited, but will be open to camping, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. Lunga Recreation Facility closed in 2012 due to the discovery of unexploded ordnance. Cleanup efforts are currently being made by Marine Corps Community Services Quantico and Navy Facilities Command Washington to restore Lunga as a safe and fun place for Marines and their families. The new Lunga Recreation Facility is expected to open in the near future.

Part of Mosquito Creek Lake is leased to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, which operates Mosquito Lake State Park. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District operates the reservoir to provide flood protection for the Mahoning River Valley as well as for the Beaver and upper Ohio rivers. Mosquito Creek Lake also stores water and releases it downstream during dry periods to improve water quality and quantity for domestic and industrial use, recreation, aesthetics and aquatic life. The reservoirs recreation areas offer residents and visitors with opportunities to camp, boat, picnic and enjoy a round of disk golf.
