Fossilized Fish in Mountain of Fish. Original caption: Original caption: A Mountain of Fish: The top of this mountain was once the bed of pre-historic "Lake gosiutes". A stratum of calcite or limestone lying near the top of this mountain more than a mile in length entombs millions of fossilized fish as illustrated on one of the accompanying photographs. Vegetable and animal life entombed in this stratum included giant palms with leaves from 3 to 4 feet in width and 6 to 8 feet in length, alligators, birds of enormous proportions, gar fish, sunfish, rasp tongues, deep sea bass, chubs, pickerel, and herring.
