Everybody Loves a Parade. This is the main street of the far northern little frontier-like town of Nome, Alaska, on the 4th of July 1955. Natives and Servicemen watch a parade which shows a group of sailors from the Coast Guard icebreaker Northwind marching. The icebreaker was at Nome from July 1 to 6, enroute to the Arctic with a Navy Pacific Task Force on last summer's Military Sea Transportation Service's sea lift operations for the "Dew Line" (Distance Early Warning) radar stations. Leaving Seattle July 16 this year for the summer "Dew Line" operations, the Northwind's crew will not be at Nome to participate in holiday celebrations.

On June 3rd, Shanghai workers, students, and businessmen started to strike. Pictured are Shanghai people protesting. This occurred during the May Thirtieth Movement. The May Thirtieth Movement was a major labour and patriotic movement against imperialist powers led by the Chinese Communist Party.
