The Comets Rival Nears Completion -- An exact scale model of the new Boeing jet airliner which is now nearing completion at the Boeing Airplane Companys work at Renton, Wash., U.S.A. The prototype will be used for demonstration purposes for commercial air lines, and will be a serious rival to the British Comet III. Depending on range and payload requirements the ***** will carry 80 to 150 passengers, and is scheduled to ***** the New York to London trip non-stop in less than *****. April 03, 1954.

This NASA Dryden Flight Research Center DC-8, on view at Patrick Air Force Base, stands ready to pursue its goal of collecting high-altitude information about Atlantic hurricanes and tropical storms. Flying at 35,000 to 40,000 feet, the plane is equipped with instruments to measure the storms structure, environment and changes in intensity and tracking. The DC-8 is part of the NASA-led Atmospheric Dynamics and Remote Sensing program that includes other government weather researchers and the university community in a study of Atlantic hurricanes and tropical storms. The hurricane study, which lasts through September 1998, is part of NASAs Earth Science enterprise to better understand the total Earth system and the effects of natural and human-induced changes on the global environment
