Bats Foot Forward -- Willie Mays, who must appear to National League pitchers to be as well endowed with bats an an ancient castle in Transylvania, has added a new laurel to his baseball crown. The brilliant 24-year-old centerfielder of the New York Giants became the first player in a decade to annex the National  League's slugging crown two consecutive years. Mays (Above) compiled a 659 percentage, beating out Brooklyn's Duke Snider, who was second with 628. He put together 51 homers (Tops in the league), 13 triples and is doubles in 185 hits for 302 bases. December 15, 1955. (Photo by United Press Photo).
