Tommy Burns, during his long boxing career, has been knocked-out by only two men Vic Patrick and George Barnes. All three were in the Stadium ring last night when Barnes retained; his Australian welter title by knocking out; Burns in the 11th round. Patrick was referee. J Patrick knocked Burns out in 1946, also in a welter title fight. Picture above shows Patrick warning Barnes (right) for alleged butting during the fight.Barnes kept his Australian title when he knocked out Tommy Burns in 1953. What A Surprise! - Rinty Monaghan down on the canvas, an unusual position for him, while his opponent, Terry Allen, waits for him to rise.Terry Allen a 24-year-old Islington "barrow boy", caused a big boxing sensation to-night when he outpointed Rinty Monaghan, Irish holder of the world flyweight title, over eight rounds at Harringay. Monaghan beat Allen in one round in 1947, to-night Allen put him down three times and on the last occasion Monaghan was still on the floor with the count at six when the bell went for the end of the round. Tuli Beats Van Der Zee in London -- Tuli takes the Dutchman's right over his shoulder and lands with his own right to van der Zee's face. Jake Tuli, the Zulu flyweight champion of the British Empire, defeated Henk van der Zee, the Dutch champion, in their 10 round contest at the Royal Albert Hall London. Top Lightweight Contender - Italian boxer Duilio Loi of Milan has been named top contender for the lightweight crown by Ping Magazine, the "Bible" of the boxing world. He has been champion of Europe and unbeaten since August of 1952. Loi replaces Jimmy Carter in the top slot as contender for Wallace "Bud" Smith's title.
