Manuel Luis Quezon y Molina (1878 - 1 August 1944), a Filipino statesman, soldier and politician who served as president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944. He was the first Filipino to head a government of the entire Philippines (as opposed to the government of previous Philippine states), and is considered to have been the second president of the Philippines, after Emilio Aguinaldo (1899-1901).

Alberto Moravia (1907-1990) in his study with a Persian cat. Moravia was an Italian writer (born Alberto Pincherle) who had tuberculosis as a child, forcing him to have study at home and to have lots of time to do so. At the age of 22, he wrote "The Time of Indifference", a novel criticizing fascism. He did not like Mussolini and was on the run during the war because of harassment from the government, forcing him to write under the pseudonym Moravia.

John Charles Thomas - Baritone not as happy as he'd like.Acclaimed as an easy going type, famous American baritone John Charles Thomas was upset when he arrived by plane in Sydney from Melbourne yesterday. He doesn't like the accommodation provided for him. "I'm supposed to be happy, but I certainly don't feel that way," said Mr. Thomas when he finally agreed to be photographed. A fine cook, he finds cooking a relaxation, and the accommodation booked for him did not allow for this. June 15, 1947.
