New Lease of Life for ***** Bats -- New plastic cover to save wear and tear on cricket bats is examined by Middlesex players Freddy Titmus and Don Bennett (right) at the Chiswick (London) Indoor School of Cricket.Bannett holds a bat partly encased in the new Mouldex cover.The cover, made from a new plastic material, is fixed to the at with adhesive and adds only little more than five ounces to the weight. In position, it provides an impervious surface, waterproof, and needing no killing. It can be easily cleaned with soap and water.The now cover, it is claimed, will reduce cost of repairs and renewals of cricket bats. July 21, 1954.

New Zealand tennis player, Anthony Frederick Wilding (1883-1915), Wimbledon Mens Champion in 1910, 1911, 1912 and 1913 pictured early in his career at the age of 22 serving against American, W. J. Clothier at Wimbledon in 1905, w match he won despite losing the first two sets. He was eventually beaten in the quarter finals by the 37 year old Arthur Gore. Tall, handsome, athletic and genial, Wilding became a hugely popular sporting star. After his 1913 championship win, ladies reported fainted
