The midgets take from six weeks to nine months to build -- from drawing board to finished product. Instrumentation is designed as work on the actual model progresses. Public Library- the work of Leyton Public Library Service, Church Lane, Leytonstone, London, England, UK, September 1944 In the large octagonal hall of Leytonstone Public Library, two staff members change the display of 'modern pictures' which are exhibited for three months at a time. In the centre of the hall is a display of interesting new books. Members of the public can be seen seated around the edge of the hall, reading quietly.

School Is "Home" -- A close-up of Maria Kotowicz, a pupil at the Paderewski Secondary Grammar School, Diddington, relaxing in her room with her embroidery, The intricate pattern she is working, executed in red and black is based on Polish folk -motives. One school where the pupils are encouraged to forget is the Paderewski Secondary grammar School at Diddington near Huntingdon. They are not, however, encouraged to forget theirs lessons, but to forget their past, for the 205 pupils at this school are all refugees, girls between the ages of 13 and 19, who have at last found a "home" after their sad wanderings which have taken them through Palestine, Africa and Siberia, At this "'Little Poland", their home as well as their school, they have a well-equipped gymnasium, a library and acres of open ground. From the Services To Schoolmastering- Re-training at Goldsmith's College, London University, Nottingham, England, 1944 Two of the 28 ex-servicemen training to be teachers at Goldsmiths College (based at Nottingham University since the outbreak of war) are training to have art as their main subject. Here one of the men takes part in an art class at Nottingham University, which, according to the original caption, should give him some 'sense of design'.

International School- Life at Pauntley Court, a School and Home For French and Belgian Refugees, Pauntley, Gloucestershire, 1943 Ten year old Lilly from Le Havre, France, is a resident at Pauntley Court in Gloucestershire, a hostel and school for European refugees and British evacuees. Each of the daily chores is worked on a rota system, and today is is Lilly's turn to clean shoes before school.

When it Comes to Needlework: The Boys Can Beat The Girls! -- David Nebolt, aged 14, busy at work on his embroidery at the school.Proof that boys are as good-if not better at needlework than the girls - can be found at St. John's School Waterloo, London, where the girls are "taking a back seat" at such feminine accomplishments as needlework and cooking. These unsuspected talents were discovered when the headmaster, Mr. A.C. Baker, decided to allow pupils to choose (from a selected list) their own occupations on Wednesday afternoons. War Comes To School- Life at Peckham Central School, London, England, 1943 13 year old Edith Carter baths a doll during a 'mother-craft' lesson at Peckham Central School, in which the pupils are also taught how to handle and dress a baby. Edith has a younger brother, so is used to dealing with babies. Her father is a war worker and their home was blitzed in May 1941. She has been evacuated three times. According to the original caption, this was a very popular class with the girls at this school.

School - A close-up of a model of the Kidbrooke School for Girla Kidbrooke (Kant) the first of the L.C.C.'s new comprehensive Schools, which opens in September. This huge building will provide accommodation for 2,000 girls. One special feature of this spacious, attractive school, built on a site of nearly 10 acres, are the nine "flatlets" in which the pupils will be taught housecraft and homecraft.
