The train was about 13 yards long.Eleven years age Emilio Schuberth started designing hats in Rome. After a year, he opened a fashion house, and within a few months was commissioned to make the wedding dress for H.R.H. Maria of Savoy, Daughter of King Victoria Emanuele III. A white organdie evening gown with large white polka dots. The slender waistline was accentuated by the fullness of the skirt. In 1947 Christian Dior created a sensational collection labelled the 'New Look.' His designs centred around gowns with an 18-inch waist, which focused attention on the bust and hips.
