Tulips, Roses and other Flowers in a Glass Balthasar van der Ast (1593-1654/Dutch)
Summer Flowers in a Vase. Paul Nash (1889-1946). Oil on canvas laid on board. 41 x 33cmStill Life: Flowers and Fruit 1850-55 Severin Roesen American This exceptionally large still life represents Roesen at his best. It is undated but was probably painted between 1850 and 1855, when the artist was living in New York. The elaborate and crowded composition is characteristic, as are the brilliant color, technical virtuosity, and meticulous attention to detail expected of someone who was trained as a porcelain painter. The picture is a fine example of the excess that underlies much of Victorian design.. Louis Prang & Company CollectionRed Roses, Blue Flowers, Yellow Background by William W. Huggin, acrylic on canvas, 1993, b.1966, Private CollectionVase of Flowers (Pink Background) ca. 1906 Odilon Redon French Having worked almost exclusively in black and white for more than two decades, Redon revealed his gifts as a colorist in the luminous pastels and paintings he made after 1895. In this bouquet, such identifiable flowers as poppies and cornflowers, which he had studied attentively, emerge as fanciful re-creations, in jewel-like patches of color against a misty, undefined field. Late flower pictures such as this one remain true to Redons artistic aim: "to place the logic of the visible at the service of the invisible." Buy a print Custom framed to suit your space. William Merritt Chase American Although Chase executed about 120 still life paintings, only ten were based on flowers. However, vases of flowers occasionally appear in his interior scenes and in his portraits. In this canvas an azalea shrub is depicted in a Chinese export porcelain vase, which is presumably used as a planter. Chase was an avid collector of bric-à-brac, including Asian artifacts. The asymmetrical composition of this painting hints at another important aspect of Chase's orientalism: his willingness to emulate some of the basic design principles of Far Eastern art.. The composition of this still life is both sumptuous and inventive. Mignon set the roemer, the green glass at the left, upside down. Reflected in it is a window, and a view of a church tower in Utrecht, where Mignon lived. The porcelain bowl from Asia was a sign of prosperity as well as being a showpiece on the table.Flowers in a Crystal Vase, Edouard Manet, c1882 Painting; oil on canvas; overall: 32.7 x 24.5 cm (12 7/8 x 9 5/8 in.) framed: 52.7 x 44.8 x 8.3 cm (20 3/4 x 17 5/8 x 3 1/4 in.);Balthasar van der Ast (Middelburg, 1593/94-Delft, 1657). However, his eye for subtle color harmonies was already well-developed, as evident in the juxtaposition of the pinkish-white Malmaison roses, purple-tinged grapes, and golden pear.. His depiction of a five-dollar bill was so realistic he was charged with counterfeiting and scolded for wasting his talents on such endeavors. Clearly Harnett was a talented trompe loeil, or 'trick the eye,' painter. Still-life with Flute and Times displays the same convincing deception: the mimetic stoneware texture of the stein and the thin, raised rim of the pipe bowl are created through meticulous layering and build-up of paint.Flower Still Life Diana Ong (b.1940/Chinese-American) Watercolor Private CollectionUVAS NEGRAS-1983-ACRILICO-LIENZO-29X24 CM.
