Williams Homer Eliminates Yankees -- Ted Williams, Boston Red Sox left fielder, crosses home plate after hitting a home run in the first inning of the Red Sox-New York Yankees game at Fenway Park in Boston, Oct. 2. Reaching out to congratulate Williams is the Red Sox third baseman Johnny Pesky, who scored on Ted's homer. The Blow, which put the Red Sox off to an early lead over the Yankees, proved to be the payoff blow-enough to eliminate the Yankees from the pannant chase -- as the Yankees scored only one run in the game which the Sox won 5-1.
