Interior.Barrel Organ ca. 1830 British Instead of having a keyboard played by an organist, a barrel organ is a mechanical instrument that has the musical notes encoded in an arrangement of metal pins in a wooden barrel or cylinder. This instrument is activated by a person turning a hand crank, which both powers a single-fold bellows that provides air, and also rotates the cylinder that engages the mechanism that sends the air through specific pipes. Technical description: Rectangular mahogany case with nine display pipes in cloth backed panel on front; inlaid striping around front edges; 28 open metal pipes, the lowest mitered, set in two rows, percussion instrument (), crank on case front turns a combination worm and crank shaft that rotates the barrel and pumps the single fold center pivoted feeder beneath a reservoir; barrel slides on a bracket and has a ten notch shift pin extending through right side of case where it is engaged by a drop latch for tune selection; door on left side allows Cabinet. >>The Electrolux laboratory. After 1840 it was one of the most important retailers of luxury items before Carl Fabergé overshadowed all competitors. Several contemporary Saint Petersburg newspapers praised the high-quality products of the magasin anglais Nicholls & Plincke.According to the donor's family tradition, this rare set with more than fifty items bearing the monogram CMI was "originally made for and used by Colin Macrae Ingersoll 1819-1903, when he accompanied his father, Ralph Isaacs Ingersoll 1788-1872, to the Court of Czar Alexander II of Russia, where the latter served President James Knox Polk 1795-1849 as Minister Plenipotentiary from 1846 to 1848.. Date: 1765-90.According to late-nineteenth-century tradition, this desk was in George Washington's headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, during the Siege of Boston (April 1775-March 1776). Consequently, it was exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago as "Washington's desk." It is the only known piece of American furniture to combine the bombé and blockfront forms. A later collector replaced the original mirror-glass doors in the upper section with wood panels. September 20, 1954.Refrigerator L 150, closed, right, side view.Organized square piano (square piano and pipe organ) 1786 Longman & Broderip This organized piano, or square piano with an organ, is an extremely rare instrument. It is signed by Eaton Pether? and the nameboard lists the piano making firm of Longman & Broderip. The case is of mahogany, with the piano on top. A hinge on the back of the piano case allows the piano to open up for access to the box below containing the organ mechanism. The bellows are located in the lower right of the case and can either be pumped by the player using a pedal to the right side of the keyboard, or by a second person standing to the side of the case.Two similar piano-organ instruments exist, one also by Longman & Broderip (serial number 1742) in the Vienna Kunsthistorisches Museum and one by Johannes Pohlman located in the Leipzig collection.
