A Cardinal's Hat - This photo shows a Cardinal's five hats. The picture was made in view of the coming January 12 ceremony in Rome at which 24 prelates will be elevated by the pope to the sacred college of Cardinals.At top centre is the Galero, or "Red Hat," the particular symbol of the office of Cardinal. A Board-Brimmed, low-crowned hat of red felt it has two clusters of 15 tassels each suspended from the crown. The red hat was once worn, but today after delivery to the Cardinal it is set aside and does not again appear publicly until the Cardinal's death. March 26, 1953. (Photo by Associated Press Photo).

William Michael Harnetts works were favored by New York businessmen, who enjoyed them for their clever illusionistic style (seen in the way the newspaper juts forward) and their references to masculine pastimes. Dynasty 12-13Helmet Crest (Maidate) 18th-19th century Japanese This crest made in the form of a gohei, the ancient ceremonial wand that is a central element in Shintō ritual, is purely Shintō in its inspiration. The traditional gohei is a staff adorned with pleated paper or cloth streamers, which are usually white but may also be black, silver, gold, or other colors. The gohei is used to perform ritual purifications of individuals as well as of votive offerings and is imbued with protective powers. As a prelude to worship the gohei draws the attention of the god to the shrine and during the ritual represents the presence and power of the divinity itself.. Text printed on reverse of stereocard Consist in an endless chain, so arranged that each link holds a picture perpendicular, when on the top of the square shaft, by which the chain is suspended. This shaft has a handle on the outer side to bring the pictures successively to view. These instruments have either one pair of best lenses and a window on the opposite side for showing transparent as also opaque pictures. The latter are illuminated by curved reflectors under the top covers. But most of these Stereoscopes have lenses on both sides, so that two persons can see at the same time pictures placed back to back in one holder, thus doubling the capacity. To view transparencies with them one pair of these lenses, fitted in a door moves down to give the requisite light.
