Sir Sidney Holland (1893 - 1961) New Zealand politician who served as the 25th prime minister of New Zealand from 13 December 1949 to 20 September 1957. He was instrumental in the creation and consolidation of the New Zealand National Party, which was to dominate New Zealand politics for much of the second half of the 20th century.

The Great Train Robbery was the robbery of £2.6 million from a Royal Mail train heading from Glasgow to London on the West Coast Main Line in the early hours of 8 August 1963, at Bridge Railway Bridge, Ledburn, near Mentmore in Buckinghamshire, England. Gang members included Bruce Reynolds, Gordon Goody, Buster Edwards, Charlie Wilson, Roy James, John Daly, Jimmy White, Ronnie Biggs, Tommy Wisbey, Jim Hussey, Bob Welch and Roger Cordrey, as well Harry Smith and Danny Pembroke.

During the last war he was Minister in Lisbon and Moscow. In 1945, he went to Washington as Minister, moving to Buenos Aires in 1948.Britain withdrew her ambassador to Spain four years ago in compliance with a United Nations resolution banning full diplomatic relations with General Franco's government. Steer, of Southampton, a ship's steward, who, it was stated at Southampton today (Monday), saw James Camb, 30-year-old deck steward in the cabin of Eileen (Gay) Gibson, 29-year-old London actress, during the night of October 17-18th last, prior to her disappearance from the Union Castle liner Durban Castle, homeward bound from South Africa. Camb was in the dock to-day charged with murdering the girl, whose body, alleged to have been forced through the port-hole of the caoln, has not been recovered. November 17, 1947.

Known as David within the royal family, Edward was king from 20 January 1936 until his abdication on 11 December the same year. His chose to abdicate after causing a constitutional crisis by proposing to Wallis Simpson, a divorced woman seen as unacceptable as a prospective queen consort.
