Photograph of Maria Pujol Near Bimini. This image is one of a set of photographs taken of the fishing vessels involved in a shooting incident 12 March near Bimini. These photos were not released as no Coast Guard action was involved and the vessels were Bahamian and Cuban. The photos were shot with a K-20 aerial camera by an air crewman, and not by one of the rated photographers assigned.

Cleveland Harbor: Great Lakes Ore Carrier Enters Cleveland Harbor. Pictured here is a group of Coast Guard maintained aids to navigation typical of Great Lakes. On each end of breakwater entrance, through which ore freighter is passing, is a light, with another prominently displayed on the end of the pier in right foreground. At night ships depend entirely on flashing signals of these lights for safe navigation.

A Jet Assisted Take-Off. A Coast Guard PBM-5 plane makes a jet assisted take-off at the Coast Guard's Salem, Mass, Air Station. Assistance from the jet makes possible a shorter take-off run, or the carrying of a load heavier than that permitted under normal take-off.

Launching of World's First Atomic Buoy At Baltimore, Maryland. The world's first atomic buoy is shown here being launched at the Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, Maryland. The buoy is lighted by SNAP-7A (denoting the Atomic Energy Commission's Systems for Nuclear Auxiliary Power), a strontium-90 thermoelectric system. This system may be used to improve the reliability of many remote Coast Guard aids to navigation lights, lighthouses, beacons, and buoys. SNAP-7A was built by the Martin-Marietta Corporation for the Atomic Energy Commission.
