Soon after the Mooltan Anchored in Gage roads today, excitement was caused when four men, followed by a nurse, took off a stretcher case. The patient was not a Smallpox Victim, but a young woman suffering from an acute abdominal condition which necessitated an immediate major operation. Her Vaccinal condition was satisfactory and after her clothes had been disinfected, she was taken by launch to fremantle and from there transferred to the Royal Perth Hospital. June 01, 1949.

American Hospital in England, 1943 Miss Vermullen, expert dietician, hands bread rolls to an orderly to be taken to the patients at the American Hospital. According to the original caption 'the food is carefully weighed and graded before it reaches the patients'. The photograph was taken in the kitchen and another orderly can be seen in the background. The food is taken around the wards in specially heated trollies.

British Medical Services in the Second World War Specialist Medical Services: Anaesthetists carrying out experiments using an improvised piece of apparatus to see whether it was possible to administer a general anaesthetic while the patient was wearing a gas mask. It was feared in the early days of the desert campaign that the Italians would use poison gas.

Opium poppy, Papaver somniferum, is the species of plant from which opium and poppy seeds are extracted. Opium is the source of many opiates, including morphine, thebaine, codeine, papaverine, and noscapine. The Latin botanical name means the 'sleep-bringing poppy', referring to the sedative properties of some of these opiates.
